MESA Strategic Initiatives Program

MESA has defined its work in terms of some of the strategic initiatives common in manufacturing and production companies today.  MESA's five strategic initiatives are real-time enterprise, lean manufacturing, quality and regulatory compliance, asset performance management (APM), and product lifecycle management (PLM). These initiatives form an executive-level framework for business objectives toward which business operations can be optimized.  The activities and IT systems in the manufacturing or production areas then feed information between the physical operation and the enterprise in which the framework is formed.

One of MESA's primary objectives over the past few years was to develop and publish a series of Manufacturing Guidebooks. The relentless focus on operational improvement and corporate compliance has elevated the need for new and enhanced ways to drive more value from existing assets, and it's become increasing clear that a better, more systematic flow of information from the operation is key to enabling and accelerating those initiatives. MESA's intent is to help manufacturers successfully create justification for, implement and then measure the impact of a series of strategic corporate initiatives in this area. These Guidebooks consist of a holistic set of pragmatic guidance and best practices to both, educate key stakeholders and to identify & address key issues related to the successful implementation of these initiatives. The 5 initial Strategic Initiatives we selected are the following:

The major components of each of the Guidebooks include: Problem Definition, Cost Justification and ROI development, Project Critical Dependencies, Implementation Guidance, Risk Assessment and Success Criteria and Measurements.

MESA Model

We've formed five core working groups to drive these Strategic Initiatives, each one consisting of a mix of end users, vendors, analysts and system integrators from all over the world.  The Guidebooks will be considered "living documents."  The first five guidebooks are currently under a review cycle and will be re-released to our Premium members in the coming months.
